January

January, what a great month!!!  No demands, no expectations, time to get a fresh start, not in a rush, relax and embrace winter.........    And what a great winter it is!!!!  We've had a wonderful new snow fall and big fluffy lake effect snow today.........got some pics standing in my front door....

These are the purple cone flower centers......love how the snow piles on their tops!!!  The birds come and eat the seeds too.....

A perfect winter morning for a hot breakfast of oatmeal and hot cocoa....so I got out my flow blue and set the table for one!!  The Stewart plaid tablecloth is still on the table for winter, nice and cheery, then I added the placemat and napkin with roosters from K Mart.........

 

This china pot holds hot water for the oatmeal and cocoa.....

Its not too often I can get great pictures in the dining room, the windows face north, but today the sun was reflecting nicely off the new snow and the room was so bright!!!

Winter Ledge

Found this cute crate with shelves a few weeks ago and just now fixed up a winter scene in my kitchen window.  I am not crazy for all white rooms or displays, but love to use colors and neutrals.  I pulled out some of my favorite brown transferware and re-designed some holiday florals to include off white and sepia toned roses.......just right for January I think!!!

Got these cute cocoa tins at TJM at Christmas, the third one was Peppermint Cocoa which I gave to my grandniece who loves candy canes!!!!

Look who's peeking out from a flower pot tucked into one of my yelloware molds...cute fella.....

Oops, and here's another one on top of some pots hiding in an antique wooden scoop!!!

Love this little shoe form.......size '0'..........how cute is that???

A very favorite Wedgewood pitcher, around 1857, love those sepia tones........

This mini pitcher is a Clarice Cliff piece from England.....

Florals appropriate for the winter season......faux, of course!!!

Snow

Forgot I had taken these pics of the last snow storm, this is the view from my 2nd floor studio windows, the snow is piled up on the roof of the garage in front.........hope you can tell what it looked like....yikes!!!

 

It was getting pretty dark in here with the window almost covered up!!!

Ah, Winter!!!

Do you know how much I love winter???  Well, I do, and this has been one of the very best in many a year!!!  We have had 23" of snow, which has all melted now with our January Thaw over the past few weeks..........but fear not, more is on the way!!!  The trees are beautiful with all their bare arms showing and the construction is amazing......the air is crisp and cold.....the sky is mostly gray but a few days of sunshine like today make it cheerful!!!  The birds are very busy at the feeders, the deer come for the apples, and the Canada geese and wild turkeys join in too!!!  Those turkeys are pretty big......just right for a Sunday dinner!!!  Not for me...........

Its been wonderful cooking meals, all the soups, stews and oven dinners that are not possible in the summer heat.....and I love cooking, its just another form of artistic, creative expression!!!  And I've done some crafting and art work also......put away most of the holiday decor, but left out the touches of winter that I love.

 

The buffet has taken on a winter look, love to keep the greens out for now.....

 

 The kitchen cupboard has been pared down, leaving a few favorite things, love those frosty trees!!!

 

I did do some shopping and picked up this red crate at my favorite store.....Hobby Lobby.....you can't beat their selection and their prices.......so I managed to corral some winter things here......and what about that heat vent????

 

Did I ever show you this cute thing I made myself for Christmas???  Well, it works for winter too....of course I didn't show you because I haven't posted in for ever!!!!  I've had Bloggers' Block, yes, that's what is was...... and I've been very busy cleaning and purging....more on that later.......

Its this cute star shaped box, which I decorated with a winter scene.......
